Weekly Fishing Report
Find out how the fish are biting...
from the International Falls Area Convention and Visitors Bureau
Walleye are hitting in 30 to 40 feet of water near submerged reefs and other structure, but can still be caught in the shallower water during lowlight conditions at dusk and dawn. Sand Bay, American narrows, Black Bay and Lost Bay have all been good places to check early and late in the day and the structure to the west of Brule Narrows would be good during the middle of the day. Walleye are hitting on spinner rigs and jigs tipped with minnows or leeches.

Many Northern are being caught near weedy edges using a large minnow or a flashy crankbait. Crappie continue to hit in Black Bay, generally on a smaller minnow. Smallmouth Bass have been hitting on weedy edges and may be transitioning from their spawn to summertime activity.

Rainy River anglers continue to do well with a minnow and spinner rig trolled or cast through some current. The Sturgeon season opens again July 1st and you could expect to find lake sturgeon in the cooler, deeper and swifter water. Just below the dam at International Falls is one good spot to try, also below the mouth of the Littlefork River and above or below the Manitou or Long Sault rapids.
